This 4 week webinar series is intended for therapists. PS-WA is hosting a half day training for others who work with families during the perinatal period, information and registration on that training can be found here. 

This small group intensive workshop provides a foundation of essential medical knowledge to build specialty skills in clinical evaluation and intervention. This extremely sensitive material is presented in a safe and supportive environment which facilitates participant learning, self-awareness and self-care. Lecture and video will address these topics: best practice in the medical setting, medical terminology and procedures, patterns of perinatal grief, normal trajectory of grief and differential diagnosis. Case examples are used to illustrate psychotherapeutic interventions with an emphasis on differences by gender, culture, religion and sexual orientation.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe standard medical interventions for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and stillbirth.
  • Describe standard in-hospital support care and options for creating memories.
  • Describe basic standards for handling fetal remains.
  • Define developmental steps toward parent identity and attachment.
  • Describe pregnancy loss within the context of trauma, depression and anxiety.
  • Identify major clinical strategies which anticipate a normal trajectory of grief.
  • Develop a resource list for in person, online, and biblio support.

Continuing Education Information:

  • 12 CEUs are approved for LICSWs, LMHCs, and LMFTs 
    • CEUs are based on attendance (3 CEUs per 3.5 hour training)
  • This training is approved as an advanced course for the Postpartum Support International Certification in Perinatal Mental Health.
  • This Program has been approved for 12 CEUs for Licensed Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists by the Washington State Society for Clinical Social Work.
