Strengthening the Pregnancy and Newborn Loss Support Team: A Training for Childbirth Professionals

This training is for anyone working with families during the perinatal period including: midwives, RNs, social workers, doulas, lactation support, MDs, and more. This extremely sensitive material is presented in a safe and supportive environment which facilitates participant learning and self-awareness.

Lecture, video and discussion will cover:

• Current evidence-based practice in the healthcare setting
• Delivering bad news
• Facilitating joint decision-making
• Providing anticipatory guidance along the journey
• Risk factors for depression and anxiety
• Impact on living children and on the subsequent pregnancy

Training Costs:

• $42 (includes all fees) General Public
• $32 (includes all fees) PS-WA Members and Volunteers

Objectives:

• Define developmental process of parent identity and attachment
• Describe in-hospital best practice for supportive care following early and late pregnancy loss
• Describe how guided participation helps patients anticipate a normal trajectory of grief
• Identify 3 signs which indicate a need for more intensive intervention

Continuing Education:

• 3.25 CEUs approved for LICSWs, LMHCs, and LMFTs
• 3.25 Contact hours are available for RNs
